She waited because she believed
She believed
That good things come to those who do
Her heart filled with hope
The flames burning in the blue
Of her eyes
She held her breath
Because the best was yet to come
That's what she was told anyway
Sure, she tripped
Every now and then
Her faith wavering after every blow
Yet strengthening again
With every pep-talk
But there were cracks
Here and there
Small at first, barely visible from a distance -
She did a great job
Filling them in -
Then she was broken another time,
Then another, then once more
The spaces between each crack
Becoming wider with each repair
There was no hiding anymore
Everyone could still see the blue of her eyes
It spilled out of her
But it was no longer the warm blue of a fire
There was a chill that touched the bone
It was the blue of cold, hard ice.
